Search & Manual Learn
The search function on the site is actually quite advanced. You can search by a word’s reading, either in Japanese or in romaji, you can search for any vocab that includes a specific kanji, you can search by the meaning, and you can even put in a radical and get a list of all the kanji that contain that radical. All the searches work with partials as well, meaning if you put in a partial reading you’ll get all the results that have that partial reading in them. If you put in a partial word you’ll get everything that matches — for example if you put in “water” you’ll get: water, waterfall, water supply, saltwater fish, etc.
On top of that you can click on any of the results and go to the page for that result. Apart from the information seen on that page you’ll be able to manually Learn it. Meaning you can add it to your review queue, even if you haven’t officially learned the kanji on our site yet, and even if the JLPT level is higher than the current one you’re at. This is so that if you’re using this site in parallel to a class or an app, you can manually add any vocabulary you’ve seen there to your review queue here — so that you can have it reinforced with the SRS system. That will help with your retention and recall.
Just keep in mind that the site is still new and being built out, so if you look up advanced words before mid-2026, they may not have the meaning and reading explanations fleshed out yet. Be patient with me, I'm working hard on getting that built out!
